Untitled Sensory Installation
Video & Audio (site specific installation)
My ongoing project is a sensory installation that activates the body and asks participants to negotiate themselves, their mind and body, and how they are feeling in the environment. This work is a departure from my previous project, Epoch, a photo and video project addressing the anxieties and overwhelming emotions that I was experiencing due to the concept of time. This installation is inspired by my daily meditations, a way for me to take control of how I am feeling.
The piece is composed of videos that are high key, abstract, moving moments and audios spaced throughout the room that both attract and repel. With my videos and audios, I activate and heighten the participants' senses and am interested in the tension of wanting to engage but being hesitant to. The sensory overload seeks to make one aware of the body, how the body feels and the way in which one reacts to the audio and videos.
This installation is an experience meant to be felt and endured. I encourage the participants to center themselves, decipher what is being heard and seen, and find the familiar in the unfamiliar.
